1. Boot Problems


Computer Shows No Sign of Power?

  • Check the power cable is snug in back of computer,
  • check to see or listen for fans running.

  • if nothing happens at all when power button is pressed, 

  • the power supply needs to be tested for hardware failure



 

Computer Powers On... and Then Off


  • You'll probably hear the fans inside your computer turn on, see the lights on the front of your computer turn on or flash, and then it will all stop. You won't see anything on the monitor and you may or may not hear beeps coming from the computer before it shuts off by itself.

  • you may be facing anything from an electrical short to a serious hardware issue.

  • If you hear one Beep(tone for mac), hardware check is ok (motherboard,ram,cpu)

  • if you hear more then one something is wrong with one of the three
  • take all  devices off, leave only mouse keyboard

  • no boot still, might need to be cleaned out (dusted) for good solid connection and tested for   

     

    hardware failure  

 

Computer Powers On But Nothing Happens, no picture?

  • Test your monitor - first check power and connection cable in the back
  • Try another test with a differnt monitor if  possible
  • at that point you need to test your video card or video source output (means testing the motherboard)

You can use the following startup key combinations with Intel-based Macs. 




Press C during startupStart up from a bootable CD, DVD, 
or USB thumb drive (such as OS X install
 media).
Press D during startupStart up in Apple Hardware Test (AHT).
Press Option-Command-P-R until 
you hear startup sound a second time.
Reset NVRAM
Press Option during startupStart up in Startup Manager, where 
you can select an 
OS X volume to start from. Note
Press N to make the the first
 bootable Network volume appear
 as well.
Press Eject, F12, or hold
 the mouse or trackpad button
Ejects any removable media,
 such as an optical disc.
Press N during startupAttempt to start up from a
 compatible network server (NetBoot).
Press T during startupStart up in Target Disk Mode.

 and temporarily disable login items.

2. SET Your Home Page

Set the Homepage for Internet Explorer (IE)

*Select Tools (upper left in your browser)
*Select "Internet Options" from the pull-down menu
*On the page that opens, you'll see an option to Add or Change Home Page (language varies a bit depending on which version of IE you are using). Click on this, and follow the simple steps to re-set your home page.
Set the Home Page for Firefox (Mozilla)

*Select Tools (upper left in your browser)
*Select "Options" from the pull-down menu
*On the page that opens, click "Main". 
*You'll see a Startup option to set your homepage. Click on this, and follow the simple steps to re-set your home page.


Set Homepage for Safari (Apple/Mac or Windows)

*Select Edit (upper left in your browser)
*Select "Preferences" from the pull-down menu
*On the page that opens, click "General". 
*You'll see a "Home Page" text box...just enter the page you want to use.
